Children Faith Formation
St. Thomas More believes that Faith Formation is very important in our faith journey. These are the values on which we build the Faith Formation Program: Parents are the first and most important teachers of their children in nurturing and practicing our Catholic faith. The parish role is to help parents with this teaching role. Worshiping together as a family is a critical part of a child's faith formation.
Faith Formation Sunday School
Faith Formation classes start on Sundays and Wednesday evenings, in September and run through May with the exception of holiday weekends. Classes are held during the 10:30 am Mass for Pre-K, K and 1st grades and at 9:30 am for 2nd-5th grades and on Wednesday evenings from 6:30pm until 7:30pm for 1st-5th grades. Children's Liturgy of the Word
Children's Liturgy of the Word is offered for 4yr olds through 5th graders year round during the 8:30am and 10:30am Masses. This gives the children the opportunity to both hear the Word of God in ways they can understand and interact with and join their families for the Liturgy of the Eucharist. The children leave Mass in a group after the Opening Prayer and return to join their families at the Offertory.
Sacramental Preparation Classes For First Reconciliation and Holy Communion
Our Sacramental Preparation Program begins with a parent meeting, followed by the family working together with materials we give them to help the child understand and want to follow Jesus. There is a half-day retreat for the parents and children, a rehearsal, and the celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation and 1st Eucharist. Watch the bulletins for these dates. Children should be 2nd grade or older. Archdiocesan guidelines state that the child must have one full year of religious education before this preparation begins.
Vacation Bible School
Vacation Bible School, or VBS, is an ecumenical summer program that caters to preschool 4 year olds through 5th grade children. The program runs for a week and every year has its own theme that children can explore and it allows them to discover the lives of saints and God in a creative way. Here at St. Thomas More, our VBS program includes five amazing days of Bible stories and Christ-centered fun-in-the-sun games and activities, arts and crafts, and delightful themed snacks held every first full week of August. It is run by enthusiastic and energetic adults and youth volunteers from the Parish. Click here for the VBS registration form. Click here for the VBS volunteer form.
