Lent at STM 2008

PILGRIMAGE: Walking Together in the Footsteps of Christ

A Pilgrimage is a journey to particularly sacred spaces that is embarked upon as an act of religious devotion.  The sites visited on the journey 1) connect the pilgrim with the long-standing faith example of the faith of others, 2) give witness to God's presence among us today, and 3) provide the occasion for both sacrifice and joy.  A pilgrimage not only includes prayer, it becomes a form of prayer.  The desired effects of the pilgrimage are many: conversion of heart, spiritual growth, strength in the Christian way of life, works of charity, giving an example of faith, encountering others also on a spiritual journey, and being a witness to Christ.

A pilgrim is one who embarks upon the pilgrimage in search of these spiritual gifts and who is willing to give time, energy, devotion and on open heart to the task.

You are invited as a parashioner of St. Thomas More, to enter into the Order of Pilfrim and join in our Lenten Pilgrimage, Walking Together in the Footsteps of Christ.  It is not a journey we make alone; it is one we enter into with others aware that they, too, earnestly seek Christ in their lives, have much to offer us, and are also in need of our support and prayers.  Christ is both our comanion and our guide on this journey.  There are no paths we will walk that He has not already trod.
