Respect Life Month

We are ALL created in God’s Image and Likeness

What is Respect Life Month?

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) observes October as Respect Life Month, calling Catholics to cherish, defend, and protect every human life from conception to natural death. We are all called to highlight and uphold the dignity of every human person, especially the most vulnerable.

Respect for Life extends beyond any single issue!

1. Protecting the smallest and vulnerable among us: Upholding the dignity of unborn human life and supporting women and families facing unexpected or difficult pregnancies.

2. Care for mothers, fathers, and families: Providing practical, emotional, and material support to parents, especially to those facing or experiencing extraordinary challenges in caring for their families.

3. Care for the Sick and Dying: Promoting compassionate care for those who are seriously ill, elderly, or nearing the end of life, while upholding their inherent dignity and honoring the sacredness of life, even amid suffering.

4. People with disabilities: Affirming the equal dignity and worth of people with disabilities, regardless of their abilities or medical conditions.

5. Capital punishment: Remembering that every person has inherent dignity, including those who have committed serious crimes, and restoring an awareness of this dignity by recognizing and treating all those impacted—both those who have caused harm and those who have been harmed—as beloved children of God.

6. Poverty and vulnerable populations: Recognizing the responsibility to care for people experiencing poverty, abandonment, and other circumstances that threaten human dignity.

7. Scientific Research: Examining the ethical and moral implications of scientific research while supporting efforts to advance healing, alleviate suffering, and promote human flourishing without compromising the dignity or sanctity of human life.

8. Ending war and violence: Promoting peace and defending human life against violence and unjust attacks.
